Day 5 - Dragons Tooth - Prof

Tonight I was sitting in my hammock eating instant mashed potatoes and drinking a propel packet mixed into water and realized that this was a perfect moment. There's been a couple so far on this hike but this was by far the best.

In case you havnt noticed by now I leave a lot of the technical data posts to Doc and I just write what I feel like for the day. But anyway we went about 14.3 miles with a big climb to start the morning and another one that was way more rocky in the afternoon. I'll cover the down hill in a moment. First the cool part, we made it to dragons tooth tonight! We also had one other cool sight today at the top of our morning climb up and over Brush Mountain we came across the Auddie Murphy memorial site near where he died in a plane crash. For those who don't know he was the most decorated veteran of WWII, a true American hero. Around it were momentos and tokens in tribute to the brave man and all the hikers we were with, ourselves as well, placed a rock on the stacks next to it.

After the memorial we descended Brush Mt. to Trout creek. With it being nearly 85 degrees out today I jumped into the freezing water and bathed before eating my lunch on the bank in the shade while I dried off. It was an amazing contrast to the heat that was cooking us the rest of the day.

We then started our next big climb of the day and made it all the way up to Dragons Tooth. From below, Dragons Tooth may look menacing, like a mountain of a dragon biting into the sky line and chewing up the air. But when you tame the dragon and summit its peak you are rewarded with a view of the world around you. Two mountain valleys stuck in a bowl of ridgeline with the Tooth sticking out the middle.

I'm starting to doze off in my hammock, at 9.30 pm it's pretty late for me now. It's growing windier up here but luckily I decided to hang my tarp tonight so I am pretty well protected. In the morning we will hike the few miles down to the hostel we will be staying at to take a break and resupply.

Goodnight
