Trail day 1 - Rain Rain go Away - Jack
Trail day 1 Mile 635.4 - 642.1 Narrows parking area to Rice field shelter. 6.7 miles.
First day on the trail was a massive success. Fast day of hiking today, started around 11:00 and ended around 2:00. Got to the shelter which is on a massive bald (top of the mountain has no trees) and it's gorgeous up here! It is however very windy. Met two hikers, Teach and Mass, who were very pleasant to be around.
We sat around, ate lunch, and had a sip of whiskey in the shelter! The hike today was gorgeous, sunny and mid 60s. We crossed at least a dozen tiny streams that resulted from the rainfall the past week.
Oh, and how could I forget our McDonalds breakfast?
Tonight we hope to take some photos of the sunset and the view from this mountain top, and maybe see some stars!
Looking down on the rest of the world! That's West Virginia down there.
The sunset we saw was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I will not be able to put it into words! This is just after it dipped below the horizon.
At the end of the hike, this was our totals (according to apple's health app) this includes miles walked around camp. I want to try to post one of these every day.
Also I want to shout out to Don, our shuttle driver who picked us up at the bus stop last night and gave us tons of valuable advice!
